Meta Tags

The meta tag is both open and closed in xhtml... <meta />
It placed between <head> and </head> in the xhml page structure.
The importance of meta tags has diminished as computers and internet have gotten faster
Important meta tags
Meta Robots: Used only if you DO NOT want your web pages indexed.
Meta Description: very important.
Meta Keywords: Most web crawlers these days just read the whole page for keywords... not so important any more, unless you are a specilaist in an unusual trade...
And, the other meta tags are only used for specialized web pages
description
This describes the document in the browser window. And is used by some search engines to provide a document description to the users performing searches.
Example: If you are a homostatic graft specialist you would use those specific $10 words in your description
<meta name="description" content="homostatic graft specialist">Googles search engine will display the description on the search results page eg search key words homostatic graft specialist
